RYA Shorebased Training Courses from Conwy Yacht Charter in North Wales

RYA Training Centre

Conwy Yacht Charter is a fully recognised RYA Training centre offering a range of RYA shorebased courses including basic navigation course, diesel engine maintenance, First Aid and Day Skipper theory.

RYA Basic Navigation and Safety

This is a new two day course being offered by the RYA to provide an introduction to navigation and basic safety in a small boat at sea. No pre-course experience is necessary and you will be awarded a certificate for successful completion of the course.

RYA Day Skipper Theory Course

This five day course is a comprehensive introduction to navigation, meteorology and basic aspects of seamanship. It is designed to provide the underpinning knowledge required for the Day Skipper practical course. On successful completion you will have acquired the basic navigation skills and general seamanship knowledge.

Day Skipper Combination Course

This course combines the Shore based Theory Course with the Practical course over a 9 day period.

RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Theory Course

This is an advanced 5 day course in navigation and meteorology and also requires a complete understanding of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea. The theoretical knowledge covered by this course is pre-requisite for the successful completion of practical courses at both the Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore levels. The course can also be run over three consecutive weekends.

RYA Yachtmaster Ocean Theory Course (Astro Navigation)

This is a 5 day course in astro-navigation and worldwide meteorology which also reveals the mysteries of the sextant. It assumes a knowledge of all subjects covered in the other shorebased courses.

First Aid

In a medical emergency a little first aid knowledge and immediate action can save lives, especially in remote locations. This course is designed to provide a working knowledge of first aid for people using small craft and to support skippers of yacht and motor vessels. It fulfils the requirements for skippers of small craft working within 60 miles of a safe haven.

The course is RYA, MCA and HSE approved.

First Aid At Work

The aim of the 3 day course is to enable the student to effectively record accidents and incidents; perform life saving techniques; use and maintain a first aid kit; have an understanding of H&S at work regulations.

It is tailored to your specific workplace and features legal requirements and implications of First Aid; resuscitation and CPR; serious bleeding, wounds and shock management; breaks and fractures; illnesses including epilspsy, diabetes, poisoning and asthma.

Upon successful completion individuals will be awarded with a certificate, which is valid for three years. A two day update course is available to students who hold a current HSE First Aid at Work qualification and are confident in their First Aid skills.
